German gender is hard, until you find a pattern that holds. -heit is one of them.
The rule
Every noun ending in -heit is feminine. That means it's always die → in the Nominativ, and as the starting point for every case that follows. You don't guess, you don't check a dictionary. You see the ending, you know the article.

The whole family
-heit is not alone. Two close relatives follow the exact same rule:
- -keit → dieMöglichkeit, dieFreundlichkeit, dieEinsamkeit
- -igkeit → dieSchwierigkeit, dieNotwendigkeit, dieEinigkeit
All three are feminine, without exception. If a noun ends in any of these three suffixes, die is the only possible answer.
Why it works
These suffixes turn adjectives and other words into abstract nouns → frei (free) becomes Freiheit, gesund (healthy) becomes Gesundheit. The suffix carries the gender with it. Once you've seen this pattern a few times, your eye catches the ending before your brain has to reason about the article at all.
See -heit, -keit, or -igkeit → it's die. You don't memorize the gender of each word. You recognize the ending, and the article follows automatically.
